Imphal: A total of 529 polling stations in 11 districts of Manipur will be exclusively managed by women polling staff and personnel for the upcoming state election, Manipur chief electoral officer Rajesh Agrawal said on Thursday.
According to the CEO, as many as 130 such polling stations have been proposed to be set up in Imphal East, 110 in Churachandpur, 71 in Thoubal, 53 in Imphal West, 50 in Bishnupur, 45 in Ukhrul, 33 in Tamenglong, 20 in Chandel, nine in Kangpokpi, five in Jiribam and three in Senapati district.
These polling stations will be manned by women polling staff and women security personnel, he said.
A total of 2,968 polling stations would be set up for the upcoming elections to the Manipur Legislative Assembly on February 28 and March 5. A total of 115 model polling stations would be set up in the state on the polling days, he added.

Agrawal also said that chief election commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra had expressed his satisfaction with the initiative during his visit in the state to reviewed the poll preparedness.
Moreover, the Election Commission of India has decided to arrange airlifting plan for 83 polling booths across four hill districts, in case of any emergency, said the CEO.
Of the 83 polling stations, 30 stations in Churachandpur, 20 in Chandel, 17 in Tamenglong and 16 in Ukhrul districts have been selected for the airlifting facility, he said.
“In case of any emergency, the Presiding Officers along with EVM/VVPAT machines will be airlifted from such identified polling stations. Further, an air ambulance will be deployed to airlift any person, in case of emergency/casualties,” said Agrawal.
