Imphal: Like other parts of the country, the new traffic rules are being implemented in different parts of the Northeast as well. Manipur is also not lagging behind in this regard. So far so good.
Although the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 implemented from September 1 is aimed at “saving precious lives” (as per Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari), are you ready to pay the hefty fines if caught violated traffic rules yet?
If you are not, then this Facebook page may come in handy, especially if you are or happen to be in state capital Imphal.
Some “smart” social media users in Manipur have created a page on Facebook in which they keep on updating about the presence of traffic personnel and check points in various parts of Imphal so that others don’t bump into them.
The Facebook page that has suddenly become the talk of the town is called ‘Traffic Kadomda Leihwe’, which literally translates to ‘Where are the traffic police’ in Meitei, the lingua franca in the state.
The page, which was recently created, has already over 4,000 likes and counting. From the look of it, the page is very active and the users have been giving minute-by-minute updates about the presence of traffic personnel in and around Imphal. The first post of the page that was written on September 12, reads, “Through this page, Traffic Kadomda Leihwe, let us save some money. Kindly update traffic police presence in this page.”

Some of the posts that were posted on the page are really funny and also very informative for the traffic rule defaulters in the town. Some of the posts, as shown above, share the details and the exact location of where the traffic police are and where they are not.
Post the imposition of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 on September 1, hefty penalties for violating traffic rules have hit the headlines. This has also led to the generation of a lot of memes that are circulating on social media platforms.
Sample a couple of them (just for laughs):
