The Kohima Lotha Hoho celebrated its 50th Foundation Anniversary cum Tokhü Emong Festival on 7 November 2025 under the theme ‘Future-Ready Reasoning’.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio graced the occasion as the Special Guest. Deputy Chief Minister for Home and Border Affairs, Yanthungo Patton, was the Chief Host, while Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Agriculture, Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA, and Achumbemo Kikon, MLA, attended as Hosts.
The programme began with an invocation by Pastor Mhonchumo S. Lotha of Kohima Lotha Baptist Church, followed by a welcome address from K.N. Mhonthung Lotha, Chairman of Kohima Lotha Hoho.
In his address, Chief Minister Rio extended Tokhü Emong and Jubilee greetings to the Lotha community. He said the gathering was a symbol of unity and brotherhood, acknowledging the presence of tribal leaders, elders, and well-wishers. He paid tribute to the pioneers of the Hoho for their sacrifices, adding that their legacy continues to inspire the younger generation to lead exemplary lives.
Rio noted that the Lotha presence in Kohima has a long history, contributing to public service, business, and social growth. Unity must be the ultimate goal, he said, encouraging the community to grow stronger together.
Highlighting the development and potential of Wokha district, he stated that Wokha is blessed with resilient people, fertile land, rich forests, natural resources, and scenic rivers generating hydroelectricity. The district has also gained international attention due to the annual arrival of the Amur Falcons, attracting tourists and researchers. He lauded the success of the Banana Festival and congratulated the farmers, leaders, and organisers.
Rio described Wokha as the “Land of Plenty,” stating that many vegetables sold across Nagaland and neighbouring states come from Wokha. He also cited the people of Wokha as a vibrant community, with a high number of meritorious government servants and a rich cultural heritage reflected through their traditional attire, songs, and dances. He emphasised preserving and documenting cultural identity for future generations.

He encouraged the community to continue contributing to the social, political, and cultural progress of the state. Peace, unity, cultural support, and working for the development of Nagaland should remain a priority. “May the spirit of brotherhood among Naga tribes grow stronger,” he concluded.
Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton also extended Tokhü Emong and Jubilee greetings. He reminded the gathering that the Hoho was founded by pioneers from the three Lotha ranges without discrimination or division. He urged the community to avoid clanism, forgive and forget, and promote unity in society, both in churches and the community.
Addressing students, Patton encouraged them to remain focused on their studies and avoid excessive use of mobile phones, which affects learning and career prospects. “Do not study just for namesake. Study to excel and compete,” he said. He also stressed the importance of learning and preserving the mother tongue, adding that some youths no longer know the names of traditional attire or cultural symbols.
Patton encouraged Lotha government servants to be sincere in public service and not view their jobs merely as a source of salary. He said all four Lotha legislators remain dedicated to the welfare, unity, and progress of the community. He concluded by praying that the Jubilee brings prosperity to the Lotha community.
Short speeches were delivered by representatives of the Lotha Hoho Okying, Lotha Officers’ Association, and Kohima Lotha Eloe Ekhung.
The programme featured a special song, “A Lotha,” by Eyilobeni Kikon, followed by a cultural performance by the Lotsu Village Cultural Troupe. A special prayer was offered by Rev. Dr. K. Benry Lotha of Kohima Lotha Baptist Church.
The event was chaired by Dr. Noyingbeni T. Erui and Rendemo Shitio.
