Indian Railways has announced extensive measures to manage the surge in passenger traffic during the ongoing festive season, operating a total of 12,011 special trains across the country. The number marks a significant increase from 7,724 trains operated during the same period last year.
In the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone, 48 special festival trains have been scheduled, covering 620 trips across various routes from September to December 2025. The initiative aims to ease travel during Puja, Diwali, and Chhath, ensuring better connectivity to key destinations.
Special facilities have been put in place at major stations including Katihar, New Jalpaiguri, Guwahati, Jogbani and Kishanganj. These include holding areas, upgraded passenger announcement systems, additional ticket counters, automatic ticket vending machines, and enhanced crowd management. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and additional staff have been deployed round the clock for assistance and security.
