Indian Railways has introduced 12,011 special trains across the country to handle the festive season rush, marking a significant rise from 7,724 trains operated during the same period last year.
In the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone, 48 special festival trains are running between September and December 2025, covering a total of 620 trips across key routes to accommodate passengers travelling for Puja, Diwali, and Chhath.
According to NFR officials, special arrangements have been made at major stations including Katihar, New Jalpaiguri, Guwahati, Jogbani, and Kishanganj to manage the increased passenger flow. Facilities such as holding areas, enhanced announcement systems, additional ticket counters, and automatic ticket vending machines have been set up. Round-the-clock war rooms and additional Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel have also been deployed to ensure passenger safety and crowd management.
The special trains are connecting major destinations such as Katihar, Kishanganj, New Jalpaiguri, Sonpur, Dauram Madhepura, Agartala, New Tinsukia, Bengaluru, Amritsar, Patna, Dibrugarh, Gorakhpur, Silchar, Naharlagun, Kolkata, Guwahati, Ranchi, Mumbai, Agra, Jogbani, Lumding, Howrah, Gomti Nagar, Anand Vihar, Kamakhya and Charalapalli.

- Train No. 05978 Dibrugarh – Gorakhpur Weekly Special, departing Dibrugarh at 9:10 am and arriving at 7 pm.
- Train No. 05736 Katihar – Amritsar Weekly Special, departing Katihar at 9 pm and reaching Amritsar at 9:45 am.
- Train No. 07541 Katihar – Dauram Madhepura Daily Special, leaving Katihar at 7 pm and arriving at 10 pm.
- Train No. 07542 Dauram Madhepura – Katihar Daily Special, departing Dauram Madhepura at 10:45 pm and reaching Katihar at 2:30 am.
- Train No. 07540 Katihar – Manihari Daily Special, leaving Katihar at 8:30 pm and arriving at 9:30 pm.
- Train No. 07539 Manihari – Katihar Daily Special, departing Manihari at 5 am and reaching Katihar at 6 am.
Passengers have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate with railway staff to ensure safe and smooth travel during the festive period.
