Chandel: The Maring Frontal Organisations on Friday expressed its deepest outrage and strongest condemnation against the heinous and barbaric acts of violence recently inflicted upon innocent villagers of Choktong, a border village in Tengnoupal district, Manipur.
In a statement issued, the Maring Frontal Organisations stated that one Th Merangshing Charanga (23), son of Th Angrung Charanga of Choktong village, was abducted on September 1, 2025, at around 1 pm while villagers were engaged in their daily work.
Despite exhaustive day-and-night searches by the community, Charanga remained missing until late night of September 2, 2025, it stated.
It further stated that, on September 3 at around 4:30 am, he was returned by refugees being sheltered on humanitarian grounds by the village, after being subjected to gruesome third-degree torture and merciless physical assault by the so-called People’s Defense Force.
According to the Maring Frontal Organisations, this incident is not the first such case. On April 16, 2025, another brutal knife attack was carried out against D Wungramthing of Choktong village at Satang, leaving him grievously injured. Several other incidents of harassment, intimidation, and violent assaults have also been reported in recent months, painting a clear picture of systematic targeting of innocent villagers, it stated.
“Equally disturbing is the indifferent attitude of the law-enforcing agencies in the border areas. Their continued failure to respond effectively to these atrocities is eroding public confidence in the very institutions meant to safeguard them. The faith of the people in the security personnel manning the border areas is rapidly diminishing, and their sincerity and commitment are now being openly questioned by the local populace,” it stated.
The frontal organisations also maintained that such recurring atrocities are nothing less than acts of terror, constituting gross crimes against humanity, grave violations of human dignity, and direct threats to peace and public security in the region. The pattern of violence demonstrates a calculated attempt to instil fear, destabilise communities, and undermine law and order.
The Maring Frontal Organisations also warned that failure to act decisively will not only embolden criminal elements but will also further alienate the people from the very institutions meant to protect them.
Justice must be delivered without delay, and the safety, dignity, and sovereignty of our people must be safeguarded at all costs, it added.
