Imphal: Bishnupur district’s superintendent of police has suspended a policeman following his arrest in connection with an extortion case.
According to an official, Constable Md Amumacha, currently attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (Special Branch) in Imphal, was arrested by Andro police on Saturday for his involvement in extorting money from the public using arms.
Following his arrest, the policeman was placed under suspension with immediate effect, according to an order issued on Monday.
During the period of suspension, Amumacha’s headquarters will be at the District Police Reserve Lines, Bishnupur, and he will not leave without prior permission from the competent authority.
A departmental enquiry is also being contemplated against the suspended policeman in connection with the extortion case, the order stated.
