Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati will conduct its 27th Convocation on Sunday, 13 July 2025. The event will be attended by Dr Rajendra Singh, D. Houser Banks Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University, USA, who will deliver the convocation address as the Chief Guest. J. D. Patil, President of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, will be the Guest of Honour.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, IIT Guwahati Director Prof Devendra Jalihal said the convocation marked both the academic accomplishments of the graduating class and the Institute’s wider contributions to scientific and technological development. He expressed hope that the experiences shared by the invited speakers would serve as motivation for the students as they transition into their professional careers.
This year, the Institute will confer a total of 2,093 degrees. These include 1,005 undergraduate degrees, 818 postgraduate degrees, and 270 doctoral degrees.
During the convocation, four gold medals will be awarded, including the President’s Gold Medal, the Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, and the Governor of Assam Gold Medals for both undergraduate and postgraduate recipients.
IIT Guwahati held its first convocation in 1999, when 63 students graduated. Over the past 26 years, more than 24,700 students have been awarded degrees by the institution.
