Kohima: The Nagaland Police have seized narcotics and illegal substances worth nearly Rs 119 crore in 2024 alone, arresting 343 individuals in connection with 199 registered cases.
At a press briefing held at the Police Complex in Chümoukedima on Wednesday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vikram Khalete revealed that the state has emerged as a key transit route for drugs, with most consignments originating from Manipur and destined for states like Assam, Punjab, and Karnataka.
In the past few weeks, he said that heroin worth over Rs 15 crore were also seized.
Among the confiscated substances in 2024 include 545 kg of ganja worth over Rs 2 crore, 1,010 kg of opium valued at more than Rs 47 crore, and over 15 kg of heroin amounting to Rs 53 crore.
Seizures also included brown sugar worth Rs 7 crore, 694 grams of crystal meth valued at Rs 4 crore, 57,794 tablets of yaba worth Rs 2 crore, 191,956 units of synthetic drugs valued at Rs 38 lakh, and 17,290 bottles of ABD cough syrup worth Rs 51 lakh.
