GANGTOK: Sikkim recorded it’s biggest ever COVID-19 spike with 170 cases recorded on Thursday. This comes a day after the state broke its record with 151 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. Sikkim has altogether recorded 1,512 cases in April.
There are 1,247 active COVID-19 cases, with 118 admitted in various hospitals. STNM Hospital alone accounts for 90 of the admitted COVID-19 patients, while Central Referral Hospital accounts for 22 admitted patients.
22 new recoveries were recorded on Thursday, and two more COVI-related fatalities recorded at STNM Hospital, taking the toll to 146. Ten people have died of COVID-19 in Sikkim this week.
Among the 170 new cases, East Sikkim recorded the maximum cases with 124 new infections. The district has already recorded 1,152 cases this month, while cumulatively the district accounts for 5,865 cases so far.
South Sikkim recorded 34 new cases on Thursday, taking the tally to 183 cases in April. The district accounts for 1,175 cases so far.
West Sikkim recorded 9 new cases, taking the district tally to 432 cases so far. North Sikkim inches closer to 100 cumulative cases so far with 3 new cases on Thursday. The district tally is at 97, with 43 new cases being recorded this month.
734 tests were conducted on Thursday, with 549 RT PCR tests resulting in 132 positive cases. 180 RAT tests were conducted, resulting in 37 testing positive. Five Truenat-cbnat tests were conducted with only one person testing positive.
