Guwahati: In a tragic accident that unfolded on Tuesday morning, a Public Works Department (PWD) surveyor lost his life after being struck by a speeding dumper truck in the Kahilipara area of Guwahati.
The victim, identified as Nikhil Deka (35), hailed from Dalong ghat in Sipajhar under Darrang district. He was fatally injured in the accident, which occurred at the premises of the Axom Sarva Siksha Abhijan Mission.
According to initial reports, the dumper truck, bearing registration number AS09C9666, was descending from a hilltop when the driver lost control and crashed into the walls of the office building. Tragically, this marks the third such incident reported at the same location.
Following the accident, city police promptly responded to the scene and retrieved Deka’s body for a post-mortem examination. Additionally, they recovered a two-wheeler belonging to the deceased at the accident site, identified by its registration number AS01FM3260.
In the aftermath of the incident, enraged locals apprehended the dumper truck driver and subjected him to physical assault. However, law enforcement intervened and took the driver into custody.

Disturbing allegations have emerged suggesting that the driver may have been under the influence of marijuana at the time of the accident. The city police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident, working diligently to ascertain the causes and any potential negligence involved.
The investigation is ongoing, and the city police department has not ruled out the possibility of negligence on the part of the driver.
