Guwahati: In a ghastly incident, a man killed a girl for rejecting his love proposal.
The killer, identified as Sanjay Lalung, is a resident of Shanti Basti in Amsing Jorabat in Guwahati. The victim has been identified as Marami Tanti.
According to police, the man had been insisting the girl accept his proposal for a long time, but she continued to refuse.
The perpetrator killed the girl with a machete in front of her mother after dragging her out of a vehicle.
After killing the girl, the accused fled from the crime scene in a car, only to be arrested by Satgaon police.
It may be mentioned here the murder of another girl Nandita Saikia in Dhemaji in a similar manner had triggered outrage in Assam.
Nandita Saikia, a student of a three-year degree course at the Moridhal College in Northern Assam’s Dhemaji district, was attacked with a machete by one Rintu Sharma, who was a non-teaching employee of the college. Nandita died after battling for life.
