Dibrugarh: Ahead of the Assam Assembly polls, ULFA(I) has launched five RPG shells at an Assam Police commando camp located at the 8th/10th Mile under the Jagun police outpost of Lekhapani Police Station in Tinsukia district on Sunday.

Sources said four commandos were injured during the attack.

They are currently being treated at Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh, with one of the injured reported to be in a serious condition, even as the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

The outfit further claimed that, out of the five shells, four exploded inside the camp.

However, there is no official confirmation so far from the police or the district administration, and details regarding any casualties or damage are yet to be ascertained.

“ULFA(I) want to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Assam and want to show their presence. It is their strategy to come into the headlines before the Assembly polls,” said a source.

Meanwhile, security forces have launched a joint operation against the proscribed group.
