Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) will operate four pairs of special trains during the upcoming Holi season to accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger demand and ease congestion on regular services.
The initiative is part of Indian Railways’ broader plan to operate around 1,500 special trains across the country during the festive period to ensure smoother and more comfortable travel for passengers.
According to NFR, the special trains will run on the Narangi–Gorakhpur–Narangi, Katihar–Amritsar–Katihar, Dibrugarh–Jhanjharpur–Dibrugarh and Dibrugarh–Kolkata–Dibrugarh routes. Additional special services may be announced depending on demand.
Special Train No. 05633 (Narangi–Gorakhpur) will run every Thursday from February 19 to March 26, departing Narangi at 1:20 pm and reaching Gorakhpur at 1:00 pm the following day. The return service, Train No. 05634 (Gorakhpur–Narangi), will run every Friday from February 20 to March 27, leaving Gorakhpur at 4:55 pm and arriving at Narangi at 9:40 pm the next day. Both services will operate six trips each.
Special Train No. 05736 (Katihar–Amritsar) will run every Wednesday from February 18 to March 25, departing Katihar at 9:00 pm and reaching Amritsar at 9:45 am on Friday. The return service, Train No. 05735 (Amritsar–Katihar), will run every Friday from February 20 to March 27, departing Amritsar at 1:25 pm and arriving at Katihar at 11:45 pm the next day. Both trains will operate six trips each.
Special Train No. 05974 (Dibrugarh–Jhanjharpur) will run every Tuesday from February 17 to March 31, departing Dibrugarh at 5:20 am and reaching Jhanjharpur at 11:30 am the following day. The return service, Train No. 05973 (Jhanjharpur–Dibrugarh), will run every Wednesday from February 18 to April 1, departing Jhanjharpur at 1:00 pm and arriving at Dibrugarh at 8:20 pm the next day. Both trains will operate seven trips each.

Special Train No. 05932 (Dibrugarh–Kolkata) will run every Saturday from February 21 to March 7, departing Dibrugarh at 5:00 pm and reaching Kolkata at 12:30 am on Monday. The return service, Train No. 05931 (Kolkata–Dibrugarh), will run every Monday from February 23 to March 9, departing Kolkata at 2:30 am and arriving at Dibrugarh at 6:30 am the following day. Both services will operate three trips each.
NFR said the special services aim to connect key destinations during the festive season, enabling passengers to travel safely and conveniently to celebrate Holi with their families. Details regarding stoppages and timings are available on the IRCTC website and through official NFR communication channels. Passengers have been advised to verify train details before commencing their journey.
