The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the N.F. Railway intercepted smuggled hornbill beaks valued at approximately Rs 4 lakh during a routine check at Rangapara North railway station. The seizure was made during an inspection of train number 15613 (Guwahati–Murkongselek) Lachit Express on 21 December.
Based on specific intelligence, the Crime Prevention and Detection Squad (CPDS) of RPF Rangapara North conducted a search on the train. During the operation, a suspicious individual was apprehended, and a bag containing four hornbill beaks was recovered. The seized items and the suspect were taken to the RPF station for further proceedings.
Following legal formalities, the hornbill beaks and the apprehended individual were handed over to the Forest Department of Assam under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 for further investigation and action.
