Tezpur University professor honoured with International Literary Award

Dr Goma Devi Sharma, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Hindi at Tezpur University, has been awarded the Devkota-Lu Xun Pragya International Award 2024. This accolade, conferred by the Devkota-Lu Xun Academy in Nepal, recognises significant contributions to Nepali literature and translation.

The Devkota-Lu Xun Academy, established in 2011, aims to promote literary and cultural exchange between Nepal and China. It is named after Laxmi Prasad Devkota, celebrated as the Mahakavi (great poet) of Nepal, and Lu Xun, a renowned Chinese writer.

Dr Sharma has played a key role in advancing Indian Nepali literature, which has contributed to the broader development of World Nepali literature. The award acknowledges her work as a creative writer, researcher, translator between Nepali and Hindi, and literary critic.

With contributions spanning Hindi and Nepali, Dr Sharma’s writings have made a significant impact within the academic sphere and beyond. She has previously received other accolades, including the Asom Bhasha Gaurav Samman (2021) from the Government of Assam and the Rashtriya Puraskar (2022) from Hamro Swabhiman Trust, Delhi.

Prof Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University, congratulated Dr Sharma on her achievement, expressing hope that her success would inspire both faculty and students to aim for excellence.
