A two-day photo exhibition dedicated to the “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign, an initiative under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, was inaugurated on November 5 at Hari Mandir Auditorium in Pathsala, Bajali District. Organised by the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Regional Office, Guwahati, in collaboration with the District Administration of Bajali, the event aims to raise awareness about cleanliness, hygiene, and public responsibility through powerful images and a host of community activities.
The event was inaugurated by Mridul Das, District Commissioner of Bajali District, alongside Manoj Barua, Chairman of the Assam Agriculture Marketing Board. This year’s campaign includes multiple attractions and services designed to engage the public in maintaining a clean environment. Among these are numerous stalls set up by local Self-Help Groups (SHGs), showcasing sustainable and eco-friendly products to inspire community-driven cleanliness efforts. A specially curated photo exhibition on the theme of “Swachhata” highlights the importance of sanitation with compelling visual displays and narratives.
In addition to the exhibition, a free medical check-up camp has been organised by the Department of Health, offering basic health assessments and minimal medicines to attendees. Further enhancing accessibility to essential services, an on-site Aadhar card facilitation service has been made available, allowing local residents to address their identification needs. A Common Service Centre (CSC) has also been set up to provide information about various government schemes and assist with online form submissions, making essential government services more accessible to the local population.
The event features a variety of cultural programmes, including traditional dance and music performances, adding a lively dimension to the campaign. Interactive activities such as quizzes and extempore speech competitions are also being held, aimed at engaging young participants and encouraging them to express their ideas on cleanliness and hygiene.
Several notable figures attended the inaugural event, including Chandan Bezbarua, BDO of Pathsala; Sammujjal Gogoi, Assistant Commissioner, Bajali; Jolly Choudhury, Town Commissioner of Pathsala; Giridhar Choudhury, President of All Assam Sahitya Sabha; Dilip Roy, Vice Chairman of the Pathsala Town Committee; Munindra Narayan Goswami, National Award-winning writer; and Jiten Choudhury, President of the Pathsala Chamber of Commerce.
