Silchar: Aiming to boost tourism in Assam’s picturesque Dima Hasao district, the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, in collaboration with the Dima Hasao Tourism Department, is set to organise three major events over 50 days from October to December this year.
The events include the “Water Carnival” in Umrangso on October 26-27, the “Jatinga Festival” in Jatinga on November 8-9, and the “Falcon Festival” in Umrangso from December 13-15. Umrangso and Jatinga are located approximately 104km and 7km from Haflong, the district headquarters.
Speaking to EastMojo on Sunday, Dima Hasao Tourism Department chairman Joshringdao Phonglo said the primary goal of these events is to promote tourism in the hill district and attract more visitors. “I am optimistic that these three events will significantly boost tourism in Dima Hasao and make it one of the most sought-after destinations in the coming days,” Phonglo said.
Detailing the event lineup, Phonglo highlighted that the “Water Carnival” in Umrangso (October 26-27) will feature thrilling water sports like river rafting, speed boat rides, jet ski rides, and a hot air balloon experience. Additionally, there will be musical and dance performances. The “Jatinga Festival” (November 8-9) will host several events, including a special performance by a Bollywood artist. The “Falcon Festival” (December 13-15), a major annual event in Dima Hasao, will celebrate with great enthusiasm, as in previous years. Food stalls offering a variety of cuisines, including traditional dishes, will be available at all event venues, he added.
Phonglo also praised Debolal Gorlosa, the chief executive member of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, for his active efforts in promoting tourism in the district. He noted that the three festivals are part of Gorlosa’s larger vision to strengthen Dima Hasao’s tourism industry. Phonglo appealed for public cooperation to ensure the events’ success.
Over the past year, there has been significant development in Dima Hasao’s tourism sector, Phonglo said, resulting in a surge in hotel, homestay, and lodge businesses. This growth has also positively impacted transport businesses and significantly reduced unemployment in the district. Phonglo further pledged his continued commitment to advancing the tourism industry in Dima Hasao.
The announcement of these festivals has generated substantial buzz on social media, with posts, pictures, and videos related to the events being widely shared.
Dima Hasao, one of Assam’s two autonomous hill districts, attracts numerous tourists from across India and abroad each year. Popular tourist destinations in the district include Haflong, Jatinga, Umrangso, Maibang, and Kepeilo.
