Guwahati: The Centre has pledged a Rs 500 crore investment for the establishment of two nano urea plants at the Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Limited (BVFCL) in Upper Assam’s Namrup. This development signals a promising future for the fertiliser sector in the state.
This was disclosed on Monday by Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal who had called on Union minister of chemicals and fertilisers, J.P Nadda in New Delhi on Monday.
During the meeting, Sonowal discussed key issues regarding the development and progress of the economy, with a special focus on the North East, including the proposed capacity expansion at BVFCL in Namrup.
Sonowal requested Nadda to expedite the proposed nano urea plants within the BVFCL compound which is likely to provide a shot in the arm to the fertiliser facility situated in Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
“Today, I had the pleasure to meet the Union Minister JP Nadda ji where we discussed many issues regarding the development and progress of the economy, with a special focus on the North East region. We also discussed the status of capacity expansion at the Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Limited in Namrup. Nadda ji assured that the investment of Rs 500 crore would be done soon to affect the construction of two new nano urea plants within the BVFCL compound which will further strengthen, modernise and develop this plant as a value multiplier in the region,” he said.
“I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji for his sustained support for the development of capital industries in the region, which will empower local resources and enable a business environment of growth and prosperity creating employment, value, and wealth,” Sonowal said.
During the meeting, Sonowal also extended best wishes to Nadda on assuming important portfolios of health and family welfare and chemicals and fertilisers, and sought support to further augment the development and economic progress of Northeast India.

Notably, the advanced facilities, including a nano urea plant and a nano DAP (diammonium phosphate) plant, are set to transform the region by creating numerous job opportunities for the youth and meeting the demand for agricultural fertilisers.
Besides industrial expansion, the initiative involves social infrastructure like constructing a community hall and improving sports facilities for children, aiming to enhance the quality of life in the Namrup area.
