Aaranyak, a leading biodiversity conservation organisation, in partnership with Chandrasingh Rongpi Memorial High School (CRMHS), conducted a day-long student felicitation and career counselling event on June 23. The event took place at the Community Resource Center in Chandrasing Rongpi Village, Kohora, Karbi Anglong district, Assam.
Twenty-six students from the Diring and Kohora areas, who recently passed their HSLC and HSSLC examinations, participated in the event. Distinguished resource persons Uttam Teron from Parijat Academy in Guwahati, Krishna Rongpi from JDSG College in Bokakhat, and Jirsong Rongpi from Harlongbi Velongbi College in Deithor, Karbi Anglong, graced the occasion.
The programme began with a felicitation ceremony, where Swapan Nath honoured the guests. Dr Firoz Ahmed, Head of the Tiger Research and Conservation Division at Aaranyak, delivered the welcome address. Students who excelled in their examinations received a Karbi poho and a certificate of appreciation, coordinated by Joshna Terangpi, Rangsina Phangcho, Purno Singnar, and Kristi Bora.
Three interactive sessions were held during the event. Uttam Teron led the first session, “Preparing for the Future: Path, Approach, and Self-Initiative,” encouraging students to work hard, stay honest, and remain disciplined. The second session, “Career Planning: What? How? & Why?” was conducted by Krishna Rongpi, who stressed the importance of early career planning and education. Jirsong Rongpi led the final session, “Career Paths and Scope in Arts, Science, and Commerce,” discussing various educational and professional opportunities.
Anikaso Englengpi, a participating student, said, “We are very lucky to attend this career counselling event, which has broadened our career options and highlighted the importance of education.” Another student, Sivoram Terang, added, “Proper career counselling and guidance are very important for students, and Aaranyak is doing a wonderful job in this regard.”

The event was attended by notable guests, including Santosh Rongpi, President of the Karbi Students Association (KSA), Kaziranga District Committee, Horiram Engti, a social worker from Kohora, Bishnu Upadhyay, Headmaster of CRMMES, Moina Kramsapi, an entrepreneur, and village headmen Romesh Tokbi of Englepathar village, Sivoram Terang of Sivoram Terang village, and Gulapsing Engti of Bakring Engti village. Several village elders and representatives were also present.
Supported by IUCN and KfW, the event aimed to address career-related issues and guide students on various career options and educational requirements. Aaranyak team members Jayanta Kumar Roy, Sarlongjon Teron, Joshna Terangpi, Beauty Terangpi, Avinash Phangcho, Sarlongki Teron, Rangsina Phangcho, Purno Timung, Prokash Engti, and Kristi Bora worked diligently to organise the event.
