Guwahati: As part of its commitment to sustainability, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reclaimed a wasteland and constructed the Sirisha Rail Udyaan park in BG Colony, Maligaon.
This initiative highlights the NFR’s ongoing efforts to protect the environment and preserve the planet for future generations.
Previously, the site of the Sirisha Rail Udyaan was an abandoned wasteland plagued by water logging and garbage dumping, creating an unhygienic and unpleasant environment for the surrounding community. The area suffered from bad odors and unsightly conditions, making life difficult for nearby residents.
In a significant transformation, the NFR has converted this wasteland into a vibrant community park. Spread over 5,500 square meters, Sirisha Rail Udyaan boasts modern facilities including walking and running tracks suitable for all age groups, seating areas, a lawn, and an open gym.
The park is equipped with separate washrooms for men and women, and its walls are adorned with educational murals depicting the nature and cultural history of Assam.
The park also features a children’s play area, solar LED lamps, and a picturesque pond with two water fountains, enhancing its aesthetic appeal and functionality.

Local residents have welcomed this initiative, appreciating the elimination of garbage, flies, and mosquitoes from the area. The transformation has significantly improved the quality of life for the community, providing a clean and safe space for children to play and for people to walk and exercise.
NFR reiterated its active engagement in tree planting across various locations, aiming to increase green cover, enhance the beauty of the area, and support biodiversity and sustainable development.
