Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has conducted various checks and drives across the zone, resulting in the apprehension of four touts for the illegal sale of railway tickets.
Between March 9-14, the RPF of NFR recovered 24 railway tickets worth over Rs. 78,000 from multiple locations. The apprehended touts were prosecuted under the relevant sections of the Railways Act.
In a recent incident on March 13, the CIB team of RPF/Rangiya conducted a raid and search operation at ‘UM Printers’ located in Missamari, Assam. During the raid, the team recovered six e-tickets worth around Rs. 10,085 and apprehended one tout.
A case was registered under section 143 of the Railways Act at Rangapara North post for further action.
On March 12, the CIB team of RPF/Katihar, along with the RPF teams of Maligaon and Barsoi, apprehended one tout and recovered two railway tickets worth around Rs 10,655. A case was registered at RPF post/Barsoi under section 143 of the Railways Act for further proceedings.
Further similar checks and drives were conducted by the RPF of NFR on March 10 and 11, resulting in the apprehension of two more touts and the recovery of 16 railway tickets worth approximately Rs. 57,890. Cases were registered under section 143 of the Railways Act at respective posts for all the incidents mentioned above.
In addition to monitoring unauthorised and illegal procurement of railway tickets, the RPF of NFR also conducts regular checks on other criminal activities within railway jurisdiction, such as stone pelting at trains.

In a recent incident on March 9, a team of RPF/Goalpara apprehended one person from Goalpara Town for pelting stones at Train No. 05640 (Kolkata-Silchar Special). Subsequently, a case was registered at RPF/Goalpara post under section 154 of the Railways Act for further action.
Unauthorised supply and procurement of railway tickets, as well as activities leading to damage of railway properties, are considered punishable offenses under sections 143 and 154 respectively of the Railways Act, which can result in fines and imprisonment.
