Guwahati: In a significant blow to drug trafficking, Cachar Police conducted a successful operation on Thursday, seizing a substantial quantity of narcotics valued at Rs. 110 crores in the district.

The operation, which unfolded in Loknathpur, Dholai, saw law enforcement authorities recover 12 kilograms of heroin and brown sugar concealed in leather bags and soap cases. These illicit substances were suspected to have been transported from a neighboring state.

Following the seizure, one individual has been apprehended in connection with the illegal drug trade. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the efforts of the police force, highlighting the scale of the haul in a social media post.

“Massive Drugs Haul of ₹110cr. Based on credible information, @cacharpolice conducted an excellent operation today at Loknathpur in Dholai and recovered over 12 kg of Heroin, Brown Sugar. The substances were kept in leather bags and soap cases and transported from a neighboring State. One person has been apprehended in this connection and further investigation is underway,” he shared.

The seizure marks a significant milestone in the ongoing war against drugs in the region. The authorities continue to remain vigilant in their efforts to curb the menace of narcotics trafficking, safeguarding people, especially, youth from its harmful effects.

Further investigation into the matter is underway as law enforcement agencies work to dismantle drug networks and bring those responsible to justice.
