Tinsukia: A 27-year-old youth, allegedly the mastermind of a gang behind a series of night burglaries in Assam’s Tinsukia district, sustained a bullet injury after he resisted arrest.
The injured was identified as Mumma Sah, a resident of the Lohari Kachari area on the outskirts of this Upper Assam town.
The development came after the superintendent of Tinsukia police, Abhijeet Gurav, constituted a special team comprising of Additional SP (Headquarters), Additional SP (Crime), Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tinsukia police station, OC of Makum police station, and personnel from the Tinsukia Rider unit following a record 11 burglaries in past two weeks.
Gurav said the team conducted multiple raids across various locations in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts in the last 72 hours. “They analysed various CCTV footage in Tinsukia town and this intensive investigation led to the successful identification of the gang responsible for the recent burglary incidents.”
“In a late-night operation on the outskirts of Tinsukia on Wednesday, Munna Sah was challenged by the police team and he sustained bullet injury after the attempt to flee,” Gurav said over the phone to EastMojo, adding, that the mastermind and one of his one accomplishes had been arrested and has been taken to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh for treatment.
Gurav said, as per the prima facie investigation the gang comprised 6 to 7 members. The police have picked a few persons and are interrogating them.
The investigation is underway, and more arrests will take place soon. “Attempts are being made to recover the stolen goods,” additional superintendent of Tinsukia (HQ) Bivash Das said.
The development has come as a big respite to the business community as shops were the target of this gang.
