Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the state police will issue a summons to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the violence that broke out during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Guwahati.
The summons will be issued after the Lok Sabha elections, Sarma said, adding that Gandhi will have to be physically present before the police.
The police have already issued notices to two other Congress leaders from Assam, Bhupen Kumar Borah and Debabrata Saikia, but they have not yet appeared for the hearing.
The Assam government had filed an FIR against Gandhi and other Congress leaders for alleged acts of violence during the yatra. The FIR was filed under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 188 (disobedience of order), 283 (causing danger, obstruction or injury) and 332 (causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the IPC.
