Guwahati: Assam DGP GP Singh on Tuesday toured Dibrugarh to inspect the poll preparedness and the security lapse occurred at the Central Jail. He visited the Central Jail after chairing a law and order meeting to assess the situation in the run up to the polls.
Singh presided over the review meeting held at the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) boardroom. All the senior officials and security personnel attended the meeting that lasted for some hours.
Later, he visited visited Dibrugarh Central Jail on Tuesday to assess security measures following the discovery of spy cameras, smartphones, and other prohibited items in the National Security Act (NSA) cell housing Waris Punjab De chief, Amritpal Singh, and his nine associates.
Accompanied by Dibrugarh District Commissioner (DC) Bikram Kairi and Superintendent of Police (SP) Shwetank Mishra, the Assam DGP inspected the premises of Dibrugarh Central Jail.
During a routine inspection on February 17, authorities seized several items including smartphones with SIM cards, keypad phones, TV remotes with keyboards, spy-cam pens, pen drives, Bluetooth headphones and speakers, and smartwatches.

Amritpal Singh was transferred to Dibrugarh Central Jail on April 23, 2024, after being arrested by Punjab police from Moga district. Notably, he has been charged under the National Security Act (NSA). Additionally, his nine associates, also detained at Dibrugarh Jail in Assam, face NSA charges.
