Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a massive rally in Guwahati, declared the northeast region peaceful with the removal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from several districts. Speaking at the Veterinary field in Khanapara, Guwahati, PM Modi highlighted that over 7,000 Assam youths have renounced violence and joined the mainstream.
“Northeast is witnessing an era of peace and growth. More than 7,000 youths have left weapons and taken a vow to work for the progress of the country. AFSPA has been removed from several regions. Those areas that once witnessed widespread violence are now fulfilling their dreams, and the government extends full support towards their aspirations,” said PM Modi.
He emphasised that a country cannot progress with small targets and credited his government with changing the mindset of previous administrations.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised PM Modi for bringing peace to Assam and enabling youth to abandon extremism. Sarma credited Modi for the construction of nine bridges over the Brahmaputra River.
