A man originally from Assam has been handed an 82-year prison term by the Perumbavoor Fast Track Special Court in Kerala. The court ruling, delivered by Judge Dinesh M Pillai on Wednesday (January 31), highlights the severity of the crimes committed by the accused against his minor stepdaughter.
The Assam native, currently residing in Kerala, faced charges for repeatedly raping and impregnating his minor stepdaughter. According to reports, the survivor, originally from West Bengal, endured a harrowing five-day ordeal at the hands of her stepfather, who reportedly used a knife to threaten her at their residence near Kuruppampady.
Judge Dinesh M Pillai, presiding over the case, sentenced the accused to a maximum term of 20 years for each of the offences committed. The judgment was rendered under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, with an additional two-year sentence under the Juvenile Justice Act. This totals an imposing 82-year prison term for the perpetrator.

In addition to the lengthy incarceration, the court imposed a fine of Rs 1.1 lakh on the convict, specifying that the amount is to be paid as compensation to the victim if recovered from the offender.
