Assam: 3 arrested with Rs 8 crore worth of contraband

Three drug peddlers were arrested after police recovered Rs 8 crore worth of contraband drugs in Assam’s Cachar district on January 30, 2024.

Police said the drugs were allegedly transported illegally from the Aizawl district of Mizoram.

The operation was conducted by Cachar district police in the early hours of the day at Loknathpur, Bhaga, under the Dholai police station, with the help of credible intelligence inputs.

Two suspects were apprehended, and 50 soap boxes of heroin weighing 1.531 kg and 460 grams of methamphetamine were recovered from their possession.

The police said the prime accused and inter-state drug dealer, namely 32-year-old Md Babul Uddin Laskar, was taken into custody and is awaiting trial.
