Guwahati: The Assam health and family welfare department along with National Health Mission (NHM), Assam organised the awards distribution ceremony for National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS), Laqshya and Kayakalp in a bid to motivate government health facilities to achieve milestones in quality service delivery.
The event, held on the occasion of World Health Day on Thursday, was graced by state health minister Keshab Mahanta here along with the principal secretary, Avinash Joshi, and other health officials of the Assam government.
The health minister also launched the quarterly health magazine, “Swasthya Dapoon” on the occasion.
The Kayakalp initiative was launched by the ministry of health and family welfare on May 15, 2015, to promote cleanliness, hygiene and infection control practices in public healthcare facilities, by incentivising and recognising such public healthcare facilities.
“This initiative has encouraged the public healthcare facilities in the state to achieve and maintain the standards of excellence. It has also motivated our government hospitals to promote physical cleanliness along with putting in place the proper systems and standard operating procedures including bio-waste disposal, protocols, infection control practices, among others,” an official statement from the health department said.
In the last financial year (2020-21), 276 health institutions had achieved this award, whereas, in the financial year 2021-22, as many as 517 health institutions bagged the award. Besides, 142 health and wellness centres (sub-centres) achieved this award.
Under Kayakalp Award (the financial year 2020-21), Hajipara health and wellness centre, Barpeta Chabukdhara CHC, Morigaon and Sonapur District Hospital, Kamrup Metro bagged first prizes in the respective categories.
Under Kayakalp Award (the financial year 2021-22), Dhulijan HWC, Tinsukia; Hajo community health centre, Kamrup Metro and Haflong District Hospital, Dima Hasao bagged the top honours.
Under LaQshya, Udalguri Civil Hospital was awarded a prize worth Rs 6 lakh while under NQAS, Bhagyapur Mini PHC, Golaghat bagged Rs 3 lakh; Golakganj Block PHC, Dhubri and Kathiatoli Block PHC, Nagaon bagged Rs 3 lakh while Mangaldai Civil Hospital, Darrang received Rs 11 lakh.
The health facilities have been judged on the parameters of hospital upkeep, sanitation and hygiene, waste management, infection control, and support services among others.
