Dispur: The Assam government on Tuesday eased the mandatory COVID-19 testing rules currently at work to screen passengers arriving in the state through airports, railway stations and roads.
Fully vaccinated incoming passengers who also posses a negative COVID test report of samples taken within 72 hours of their arrival in Assam will no longer be required to take the mandatory RT-PCR test upon arrival.
The Assam government had earlier mandated RT-PCR tests for all arriving passengers, despite their vaccination status and negative test reports, with the exception of people travelling to other northeast states and Army personnel. This also led to chaotic scenes at Guwahati’s Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, as reported by EastMojo earlier this month.
“All incoming passengers, who have been vaccinated with two doses of COVID-19 vaccines and possess such certificate, on production of the same in front of screening Authority, shall be exempted from mandatory testing on arrival at Airports, Railway stations, Road Border Points etc. in Assam, provided they also possess a negative COVID test report of samples taken within 72 hours of their arrival in Assam,” said a notification issued Tuesday by Anurag Goel, principal secretary to the government of Assam.
“However, passengers who are symptomatic shall have to undergo mandatory RT-PCR testing at their own cost on arrival at airports, railway stations etc. in Assam. This notification shall come into force with immediate effect.”
