Guwahati: According to a report by Arunachal Times, the Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) on Tuesday called for the resignation of Health Minister Biyuram Wahge, citing “inefficiency in managing the Health Department” despite alleged repeated reports of negligence at the hospital over several years.
Also on Sunday, a large-scale protest shook the premises of the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh where family members, local residents, and representatives of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) Women’s Wing gathered to demand justice for 22-year-old Bengia Ama Gora, who reportedly died due to medical negligence following a C-section operation.
Bengia underwent surgery on September 2 and was later admitted to the ICU on September 6. Her brother, Bengia Lali, alleged that hospital staff failed to provide adequate care during the procedure and has filed a formal complaint at Naharlagun Police Station demanding accountability. Lali stated that his sister’s condition deteriorated rapidly during surgery, yet no timely intervention was made to save her life.
“This is not an isolated case,” Lali said, reflecting concerns shared by the AAPSU Women’s Wing, which pointed to a history of similar incidents at the hospital. Protesters vowed to keep Bengia’s body in the mortuary until justice is delivered.
APYC leader Tarh Johny urged authorities to meet the family’s demands, which include establishing a new general hospital in the ICR in memory of Bengia Ama Gora, a ban on private clinics run by government doctors, and a swift, impartial investigation into her death with stringent action against those responsible.
