Guwahati: In a world where environmental challenges are becoming increasingly pressing, Yoischa Yobin’s heartfelt plea at the “Run for Tiger” marathon in Namdapha National Park stands as a beacon of hope and a powerful call to action for conservation efforts worldwide.
“I did not think to run for myself but I ran to show the world that I ran for the tiger, I ran for Namdapha National Park. I want to tell the world that we should save tigers, as tigers are not just animals but they make nature more beautiful,” said Yoischa Yobin at the marathon which was organised as part of five-day Global Tiger Day celebrations at Namdapha which concluded on Wednesday.
While the event celebrated athleticism and endurance, it also aimed to raise awareness about the plight of tigers and the critical role they play in maintaining the balance of our ecosystems. It reminded everyone that the marathon was more than a race; it was a call to action to safeguard our natural heritage for future generations.
Her words resonated with the audience, emphasizing the significance of tiger conservation.
The marathon was organized by the Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve authority, in collaboration with local stakeholders. The event was a huge success, with participants showcasing their energy and commitment to the cause.
“The ‘Run for Tiger’ marathon is a great way to raise awareness about the importance of tiger conservation,” said Shri V K Jawal, CF & Field Director.
“We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm and support from the local youth and community,” he said.
The Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve authority extends its gratitude to the participants, ADC Miao, SDPO, Miao and Medical Officer In Charge, CHC, Miao and other stakeholders for their support and cooperation in making the event a success.
Around 100 local youth enthusiastically participated in the marathon, which culminated at the Namdapha Entry (M’Pen checkgate). The event aimed to engage local communities in tiger conservation efforts and promote a healthy lifestyle among the youth.
Mr. Ongla Singpho emerged as the winner in the male category, completing the run in an impressive 39 minutes and Miss Yoischa Yobin won the race in the female category, who completed the race in 1 hour and 10 minutes. Their remarkable performance showcased their endurance and dedication to the cause. Winners, runners-up and second runner-up were felicitated with prizes and winning medals.
The five-day programme had a drawing competition on the theme “Save Tigers and their habitats”. The winner of the drawing competition is Mr. Wangmay Wangrey of Class 12. His artwork showcased his creativity and talent, and the judges were impressed with his representation of the theme “Save Tigers and their habitats”.
There was a Tiger Conservation Awareness Rally where around 70 enthusiastic students from both schools participated in the rally, marching through the streets of Miao town and chanting slogans such as “Bagh hai to Jungle Hai, Jungle Hai to Insaan hai” and “Save Namdapha, Save Tiger”.
