Guwahati: As the electoral machinery gears up for the upcoming elections in Arunachal Pradesh, an additional 10 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) are expected to be deployed in the state.
Scheduled for April 19, the elections will cover the state’s 50 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies.
With Arunachal Pradesh boasting a 60-member assembly, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already secured 10 seats uncontested.
“The Election Commission after assessing the ground reports in the state will deploy 10 additional companies of paramilitary forces,” a Press Trust of India (PTI) report quoted Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pawn Kumar Sain.
Currently, a total of 70 companies comprising CAPFs, state armed police, and IRBn personnel are stationed across various districts of the state.
The additional forces are expected to arrive by the following week, raising the total deployment to 8,000 security personnel. Sain emphasised that this represents the highest-ever security deployment for elections in the state, with their primary responsibility being to foster confidence and assurance among the populace.
In addition to the heightened security presence, the Election Commission is implementing webcasting in all polling stations. Micro-observers have been assigned to critical polling stations, tasked with reporting to general observers overseeing the electoral process.
To ensure transparent and efficient conduct of the elections, the Election Commission (EC) has appointed 15 general observers, six police observers, and 25 expenditure observers for monitoring purposes.

A total of 11,130 polling personnel has been mobilised to facilitate the smooth conduct of elections. Across 2,226 polling booths in the state, 6,874 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be deployed for the simultaneous elections.
Vote counting for the assembly elections is slated for June 2, while the results for the two Lok Sabha seats will be announced on June 4.
