Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced on Thursday the inauguration of the first-of-its-kind fish museum in Ziro.

“(The) Aqua Museum at Ziro marks a significant step towards environmental conservation and educational awareness. It not only showcases the diverse aquatic ecosystems of the region but also highlights the importance of preserving water resources,” CM Khandu said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“By providing interactive exhibits and educational programs, this museum will serve as a platform to educate visitors about the importance of water conservation and sustainable practices,” he added.

In 2022, Arunachal Fisheries Minister Tage Taki announced the plans for a fish museum, the first of its kind in the Northeast.

The fish museum is part of India’s first-ever ‘Integrated Aqua Park’ which has been approved by the central government and is set up at Tarin (Ziro) in the Lower Subansiri district.

In 2029, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced one Integrated Aqua Park for each state and Union Territory under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana to bring the blue revolution.

The fish museum in Arunachal Pradesh will have all kinds of fish species from the state. It will also serve as a training centre for the fisherfolk.

In 2022, Taki said he had visited the Hyderabad-based National Fisheries Department Board twice to seek the guidance of the experts on the project which was originally proposed for Rs. 100 crores.

Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana

The Central Government’s Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana aims to address the critical gaps in the fisheries value chain, productivity, and quality of technology, marketing, and post-harvest infrastructure.

It also aims to modernize and strengthen the value chain, establish a robust fisheries management framework and enhance traceability while also simultaneously ensuring the socio-economic welfare of fisheries and fish farmers.
