Guwahati: A tragic incident unfolded at Rising Star International School in Emchi, Papum Pare district of Arunchal Pradesh, as a 12-year-old student, Nabam Esther, tragically lost her life on the school’s premises. Nabam Esther, a Class 6 student, passed away under circumstances that have raised questions and concerns.
According to Dr. Chera Apung, the paternal aunt of the deceased, the school authorities initially reported the incident as an accident, stating that the student fell unconscious while playing and subsequently succumbed to her injuries. However, the guardian believes it was a case of murder involving two other 12-year-old girls. Dr. Apung’s assertions have sparked demands for swift justice, urging authorities for immediate arrests and expediting the investigation.
The grieving parents have made an emotional plea to the school, requesting it to temporarily suspend operations as a gesture of respect for their departed child. Meanwhile, the All Papum Pare District Students’ Union president, Gollo Lento, has lamented the recurring nature of such incidents and called upon the state government to enforce stricter oversight on both private and government-run schools.
Parents have voiced concerns over the school’s alleged negligence, citing inadequate security measures, lack of CCTV surveillance, and a shortage of medical facilities despite hefty fees. They are adamant about a thorough investigation into what they deem an unnatural death, urging for transparency and accountability.
In response to the incident, the Doimukh Police Station has detained the two other students involved, who will be presented before the court. Additionally, the principal and hostel warden have been apprehended in connection with the tragic incident.
The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken suo moto cognizance of the case, underlining the gravity of the situation. As investigations proceed, the community mourns the loss of a young life and stands in solidarity with the grieving family seeking justice.
