Arunachal: Ten people kidnapped by banned outfits

Tinsukia: Ten persons employed in the coal industry were allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint by underground outfits from a coal mine in Arunachal’s Changlang district. Preliminary reports indicate that the coal workers are from the Tinsukia district in neighbouring Assam.

Confirming the development, SP, Changlang Police, Kirdi Padu said: “As per information available 10 persons, all hailing from Assam, were kidnapped from a coke furnace (coke bhatta) near Phinboro.”

Phinboro, 65 km from district headquarter Changlang, is around 45 km east of Margherita in Assam’s Tinsukia district and is the nearest big town.

“We are trying to ascertain details of the victims and the whereabouts,” Padu said, adding: “We have coordinated with Assam Rifles and Assam Police and launched a massive manhunt.”

However, as the area is very remote and jungle terrain, it is taking time, he added.

Padu said it is too early to confirm the group behind the kidnappings.

According to another source, the Phinboro area is dominated by NSCN (K-YA) and there is recent information about the movement of NSCN-KYA leader Makam in the area.
