Guwahat: Flocks of ruddy shelducks (Tadorna ferruginea) were recently sighted at Sangetser Lake and PT Tso Lake in Tawang district, Arunachal Pradesh.
As per reports, these birds visit both Sangetser Lake and PT Tso Lake in December where they live without disturbance for nearly two months.
The ruddy shelduck is a migratory bird known for its distinctive orange-brown body plumage and contrasting black tail and flight feathers. It typically winters in the Indian subcontinent and breeds in southeastern Europe and central Asia.
While the ruddy shelduck is commonly found breeding in high-altitude lakes in Ladakh and Sikkim, a recent survey team comprising Aishwarya Maheshwari, Kripaljyoti Mazumdar, and Pema Wang of the WWF (Western Arunachal Landscape) made an exciting discovery.

They reported the sighting of a breeding pair of ruddy shelduck with seven chicks at Tsomgo Ama wetland, at an altitude of 4,535 meters, in the Thembang Bapu Community Conserved Area in West Kameng district.
This sighting suggests the presence of a potential new breeding site, according to a report.
