Itanagar: NABARD chairman G R Chintala called on Arunachal Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Wednesday and discussed several developmental activities in agriculture and rural development sectors, and the creation of related infrastructures in the state.
Mein, who later took to Twitter to share the information, said: “Chairman @NABARDOnline, Dr G R Chintala called on me today to discuss various developmental activities/schemes related to agriculture, rural development & the creation of infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh. Heartfelt thanks to NABARD for its continued support of our state.”
Dr Chintala, who is on his maiden visit to the state, also met Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and other senior officers of the state government and discussed matters pertaining to NABARD’s association with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
The chief secretary lauded the significant support NABARD has lent to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and said the same has had a huge impact on the overall development of the state vis-a-vis infrastructure, agriculture, horticulture and other allied sectors.
“The NABARD has actually been working as an instrument of Cooperative Federalism in the state as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who firmly advocates for cooperative federalism,” Kumar said.
He hoped that the relation between the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and the NABRAD will be further strengthened with the visit of the chairman and the bank will play an important role in realizing the Act East Policy and tap the potential of the North Eastern states in general and Arunachal Pradesh in particular.
Dr Chintala on his part said the NABARD is willing to provide full support to the state and expressed its desire to continue the association with Arunachal by partnering with the state government in their development initiatives.
As per the latest report (2020-2021), the ground level credit flow to priority sector was Rs. 439.34 crore as against the annual credit plan of Rs 705.50 crore, while the borrowing power of the Arunachal government from the NABARD has increased to Rs. 251.17 crore since 2018-19 and stands at Rs. 400.00 crore in 2021-22.
Further to boost the banking connectivity in the state, the chairman and the chief secretary flagged off two mobile ATM vans from the civil secretariat which was sanctioned by NABARD to Arunachal Pradesh State Apex Cooperative Bank Ltd.
Dr Chintala also inaugurated the newly constructed Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) at Yupia.
The institute which is geared towards entrepreneurship development will impart training to the rural youth and help them upgrade their skills.
