Kohima: The Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) has been honoured with the prestigious SKOCH Award 2024 at the 100th SKOCH Summit held at Silver Oak Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
On February 15, Ango Konyak, DCF (HQ) and Deputy Project Director, NFMP, along with Wennyei Konyak, Resident Commissioner, Nagaland House, New Delhi, received the award on behalf of the Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (DEFCC), Government of Nagaland (GoN).
Implemented by DEFCC with assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), NFMP aims to enhance forest ecosystems and support income generation by rehabilitating Jhum areas and promoting sustainable livelihoods. The project focuses on conservation and village-specific interventions through Joint Forest Management Committees.
Spanning from 2017 to 2027, the initiative covers 185 villages across 11 districts and 22 Forest Ranges, targeting 79,096 hectares for forest intervention. It also aims to establish 555 Self-Help Groups under its livelihood component.
The SKOCH Award is among India’s most esteemed independent honours, recognised for its rigorous and outcome-based assessment process. Organized by SKOCH Group, a leading think tank on socio-economic issues since 1997, the award acknowledges excellence in governance, technology, economics, and the social sector.
The award was supported by the CEO’s Association for Inclusive India (CAII), a voluntary association of CEOs dedicated to advancing social, digital, and financial inclusion initiatives across the country.
