Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday revealed that the Ministry of Ayush has sanctioned Rs 75 crore for Homeopathic Medical college in Tripura.
Apart from that, efforts were underway to set up a dedicated health university and tertiary care eye hospital within the state, he added.
Dr Saha was speaking at the inaugural function of the state’s 54th Statehood Day celebrations.
Addressing the gathering, Saha said, “We have received Rs 75 crore for setting up a Homeopathic Medical College and an integrated AYUSH hospital, which will be established in Gomati district.”
He added that the state government is planning to start a dedicated Health University and said, “It is being discussed in the state Council of Ministers. We want to ensure that students can have a possible education within our state.”
Describing the health sector as a key priority of the state, Dr Saha said, “Under the CM JAY and PM JAY universal health coverage scheme, claims worth Rs 298 crore have been settled so far. The patients received full cashless treatment under both the schemes.”
He also announced, “A 100-bedded tertiary eye hospital will also be set up here in Tripura.”
Referring to investment proposals that Tripura has attracted, Saha said, “MoUs for investment worth Rs 15,800 crore have been received by Tripura during the Rising North East Summit at New Delhi, which is nearly half of the total investment proposals the entire North East region had received.” He added that “probably 60 per cent grounding has been done,” and said the state was demonstrating its potential at the national level.
The chief minister read out the letter that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had sent to him. “I feel this letter is addressed to all the citizens of Tripura,” Saha said. Quoting the Prime Minister’s letter, he said PM Modi described Tripura as “a land blessed with cultural heritage and dynamic people” and recalled his visit to the Tripura Sundari Temple during Navaratri.
According to Saha, the Prime Minister stated that Tripura was earlier “isolated from the national mainstream” and said there is now an opportunity “to bridge this gap,” adding that acceleration of progress in eastern India is also transforming the North East.
The letter also mentioned the Union Cabinet’s approval of new components under existing schemes, including a new terminal building at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, growth of the state economy and Tripura’s position as a leader in implementation of the PM-KUSUM scheme in the region.
Saha said the Prime Minister referred to the 2024 peace accords with the NLFT and ATTF, stating that “a new dawn has ushered in” and that people have chosen progress over conflict.

The chief minister also referred to Tripura’s historical background and said contributions of leaders such as Kanchanprabha Devi in the merger of the state were significant. He said the state must focus on promoting indigenous products, reducing imports and increasing exports, and added, “The future of India is very bright, and all states must contribute in this direction.”
Several ministers, MLAs and senior officials of government departments attended the programme held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.
