The Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) has announced an ambitious target of installing solar microgrids in 274 rural hamlets across the state, focusing on areas where traditional power supply is both economically and logistically challenging for consumers and the state electricity corporation.
This decision was finalized during a review meeting chaired by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday. Senior officials from the Power Department and Zilla Sabhadhipatis from all eight districts attended the meeting, where a comprehensive roadmap for the next financial year was outlined.
Addressing the media, a senior TREDA official explained the agency’s focus on three major schemes: PM Surya Ghar Yojana, PM De-VINE, and PM KUSUM. Under PM KUSUM, solar-powered pumps are provided to farmers; PM Surya Ghar Yojana facilitates the installation of solar grids in private and public establishments; and PM De-VINE aims to install solar microgrids in remote and obscure villages where conventional power supply proves costly.
The official further detailed the roadmap for the upcoming year, stating, “We have set a target to install solar grids in all government offices across the state. Initially, directorates, District Headquarters, and large institutions will be prioritized. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce the government’s power expenditure.”
Under the PM De-VINE scheme, a total of 274 villages have been identified for solar microgrid installations. “For the next financial year, we aim to electrify 175 villages with innovative solar microgrid technology. So far, 10 villages have benefited from this model under the scheme. Additionally, 58 localities have existing solar-powered setups, though these were completed before the Centrally funded scheme was launched,” the official informed EastMojo.
The TREDA official emphasized that the agency is committed to harnessing renewable energy solutions to improve access to power in rural and remote areas while simultaneously reducing energy costs.
