Continuing the fight to detect illegal migrants, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway has apprehended 47 illegal migrants and 5 Indian agents during checks across various stations in June 2024. In July 2024, up to the 23rd, the RPF detained 41 illegal migrants.
On July 2, 2024, an RPF team at Agartala Railway Station conducted a routine drive and detected 11 persons of doubtful nationality (9 females and 2 males). Upon interrogation, they could not produce any valid documents and later confessed to entering India illegally from Bangladesh. In a recent incident at Agartala station, 4 male Bangladeshi nationals were detained on July 23, 2024, by the RPF.
The Bangladeshis were planning to proceed to Kolkata via train. All the illegal migrants were handed over to the Officer In-charge of the Government Railway Police in Agartala for further legal action.
Similarly, other illegal migrants were detained from Badarpur and New Jalpaiguri stations during regular checks conducted by the RPF. RPF staff deployed at stations and on trains are vigilant and keep a close eye on illegal migrants, Rohingyas, and suspected persons.
