Agartala: Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, announced on Saturday that the Central Bureau of Investigation has established a special court in the state to handle cases related to the chit fund scam.
Speaking at the annual judicial conclave organized at the Tripura Judicial Academy here in Narsingarh, Singh commended the role of lawyers for the consistent reduction in the number of pending cases in various courts across the state.
“We are working to dispose of all cases that have been pending for a long time. This year, there has been a significant improvement in the numbers. In 2023, the total number of pending cases was 1,600, which has decreased to 1,170 this year. The lawyers have played an effective role in achieving this,” he added.
Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant, who was also present at the event, spoke on various aspects of the judiciary. Emphasizing the need to fine-tune the district-level judiciary, Justice Kant stated that the district level judiciary should not only handle civil and criminal cases but also address litigations concerning constitutional rights.
He highlighted the necessity for well-equipped district courts and advocated for training and sensitization programs for judicial officers to ensure the effective delivery of justice to the masses. The Supreme Court judge provided examples to illustrate how district courts play a crucial role in delivering justice to people in immediate need.
In a virtual inauguration ceremony, Justice Kant inaugurated an additional district and sessions court in Kamalpur, Dhalai district.
