Agartala: The Opposition INDIA bloc in Tripura which comprises eight political parties with CPIM and Congress being in the nucleus on Friday condemned the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and asserted that the Lok Sabha polls came as an opportunity for the voters to restore the constitutional rights of people.
“The constitution of India is dysfunctional here in Tripura. Human rights are paralyzed. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in its six-year rule demolished each and everything that the people of this state have created for the last seven decades. All our assets are up for loot,” Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Choudhury has said.
The CPIM leader was speaking at a party rally organized to mark the nomination paper submission of CPIM candidate for Ramnagar by-polls Ratan Das. Das, an ex-MLA has been named as A joint candidate of the INDI alliance for the bordering assembly segment.
The by-polls were necessitated by the death of BJP MLA Surajit Datta who was elected seven times from the seat earlier in Congress and post-2018 on BJP tickets.
Continuing with his tirade against the BJP, Choudhury said, “The country has witnessed that two popular chief ministers of Jharkhand and Delhi had been arrested by central agencies. All these dirty political tricks are being played out when the Supreme Court of India’s judgment on the electoral bond cases almost revealed the fact that the BJP is the most corrupt political party in the world. This is the biggest corruption that this country has ever witnessed.”
Describing these elections as a fight to safeguard the legacy passed on by the freedom fighters and leaders who built the country brick by brick, Choudhury accused the RSS of being hand-in-glove with the British.
“In the year 1947, India got independence. And, two years later the constitution was adopted. For us, the constitution is over and above all. All the fundamental rights of people should remain protected. In these elections we are taking on an opposition that has little respect for our constitution,” added the CPIM leader.
Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman said, “A total of eight parties have formed a joint platform under the banner of INDIA bloc to fight the elections. Today, one of our candidates has submitted his nomination paper. We are quite hopeful that the BJP candidates would definitely face defeat in the polls.”
Thousands of CPIM and Congress supporters participated in the rally. Meanwhile, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has yet not declared any candidate for the Ramnagar by-polls. The saffron party maintained a conspicuous silence on the topic.
