Agartala: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Tripura launched a statewide political campaign for the Lok Sabha and by-elections for Ramangar on Thursday.
From Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to his cabinet colleagues and heads of different frontal wings, everyone participated in door-to-door public outreach drives in various constituencies to convey the party’s message to the masses.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha participated in the poll campaign at the Kanchanmala area on the outskirts of Agartala city. He distributed leaflets containing the achievements of the state and central government, neatly written in bullet points.
“This is the report card of our party. No other political party will come and tell you to vote after judging their past performance. Don’t just go through this, spread the message and make more and more people aware of what the BJP has done for them,” Dr. Saha told voters.
Similar drives were conducted in all sixty assembly constituencies of the state. BJP supporters organized such campaigns in all the organizational booths.
With the campaign gaining momentum, a new slogan also surfaced: “The opposition candidates should lose security deposits.” Unlike previous polls, Lok Sabha elections in Tripura are set to witness a direct contest between the BJP-led alliance and CPIM-led INDIA bloc.
“Our candidates are winning the polls in both seats. There is no doubt about that. The reason why we are putting in so much effort is to enhance the margin. We are working to ensure that the security deposits of the opposition candidates are forfeited,” President of Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha Mimi Majumder said.
Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who canvassed for Biplab Kumar Deb on Thursday, said the response on the ground already made the poll outcome clear to all of them.
“Women, youth, businessmen, employees, people from all sections of society have benefited from the schemes launched by PM Modi, and hence the choice of the people would remain static this year as well,” said Chowdhury.
Minister Sudhangshu Das also echoed the same sentiment, saying that people, particularly in rural areas, have seen governance reaching out to them.
“Our candidate from East Tripura, Kriti Singh Debbarman, is all set for a landslide victory,” added Das.
