Agartala: A Tripura state rifles trooper attached with the election sector officer at Churaibari in North Tripura district was killed in a road accident that occurred late on Wednesday night.

The deceased is identified as Sandama Darlong (46), Superintendent of Police North Tripura district Bhanupada Chakraborty informed media persons.

The mortal remains of the slain Jawan were shifted to North Tripura district hospital for post-mortem examination, he further added. The motorcycle rider who is responsible for the road mishap is also under police custody. “He is under treatment at a hospital out of Tripura,” a source in the police department added.

According to local sources, Darlong was attached with a posse of security personnel assigned to carry out patrolling in the Churaibari area.

During his duty, a suspicious motorcycle rider was passing through the area. The cops posted at the location instructed the rider to stop the motorcycle but he defied the police signal prompting the security forces to chase him down.

In this process, the rider identified as Abbas Ali lost control of the motorcycle and ran over the TSR trooper. He suffered grave injuries leading to his death.

Police sources further claimed that the motorcycle rider was involved in the smuggling of Agarwood which is why he refused to obey the police signals. A specific case has been registered with the local police station in connection with the incident.
