Meeting of INIDA bloc leaders at Agartala Press Club

Agartala: The opposition INDIA bloc in Tripura on Wednesday announced a 25-member election campaign committee for the ensuing Lok Sabha and by-elections.

In view of the forthcoming polls, leaders of CPIM, Congress, CPIM (L), CPI, and other secular and democratic political forces held their first meeting at Agartala Press Club to strategize for the polls campaign, one of the joint conveners of the panel and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman told media persons.

Apart from Barman, newly appointed Leader of the Opposition and CPIM lawmaker Jitendra Choudhury holds the position of another joint convener. The other members of the committee include senior CPIM leader Pabitra Kar, leaders of RSP, All Indian Forward Bloc, et al.

Speaking to the media persons following the meeting, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman claimed that this alliance was the demand of the situation.

“It is a fact that the parties who are constituents of the alliance have ideological differences with each other but in the larger interest, we are compelled to join hands with each other. The biggest common factor that brought us together on one platform is the respect and regard we show towards the constitution of India. We don’t have money and muscle power. For us, people say the last word in a democratic setup,” clarified Barman.

He had also reiterated the promises that the Congress party had made, including guaranteed income to youth, publication of caste-based census data, and so on. Barman described the political understanding between the INDIA bloc constituents as an alliance of “peace and tranquility”.

Barman also launched a scathing attack on TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman stating that his real face was revealed before the public when he put forth the name of his sister for the East Tripura parliamentary constituency.

CPIM state secretary and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Choudhury, on the other hand, said that all the parties have decided to hold mass rallies on the day of nomination submission.

“On March 22, we shall organize a rally at Agartala on the occasion of nomination submission for CPIM candidate Ratan Das for Ramnagar by-polls. On March 27, a rally will be organized to mark the nomination submission of INDIA bloc candidate for West Tripura Ashish Kumar Saha and on March 28, a similar rally will be organized at Ambassa in support of East Tripura candidate Rajendra Reang,” he added.

Both the leaders appealed to the electorate to cast their votes in favor of the INDIA bloc candidates.
