Agartala: Founder of TIPRA Motha Party Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Thursday claimed the opposition has become a non-existent entity in Tripura as well as in the whole country.
According to Debbarman, he refrained from joining hands with the opposition bloc as he could sense its imminent defeat in the forthcoming elections.
“Why should I break the trust of my people by joining the opposition camp that has nothing to offer? We have signed an accord with the government of India to protect the constitutional rights of my people.
And, to ensure that the accord is implemented within the time frame, I have nominated the name of my sister as a candidate from the East Tripura constituency. Any other person with vested interest could have created roadblocks in the further proceedings,” Debbarman told media persons.
On the criticism he drew from the opposition parties including CPIM and Congress, Debbarman downplayed the statements made by opposition parties and said, “I was in the Congress. For 30 years, when the CPIM was in power, Congress workers suffered the most. They didn’t get a job. They were intentionally excluded from the MGNREGA work list. There were many deserving people who failed to secure a job for themselves just because of their political affiliation. The Congress stitched an alliance with the CPIM in Delhi, ignoring the pain and deprivation that Congress workers have faced. Today, Congress is paying a heavy price for that alliance.”
He was speaking to the media persons at MBB Airport Agartala upon his arrival from New Delhi with her sister Kriti Singh Debbarman who had been nominated by the BJP for the East Tripura Parliamentary constituency. The candidate from West Tripura and Ex-CM Biplab Kumar Deb was also present there.
In her brief media statement, BJP candidate from East Tripura Kriti Singh Debbarman said that she sought everyone’s cooperation in discharging her duties in the new role.
