Agartala: TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Sunday assured his supporters that he would continue to pursue the demand for a constitutional solution until and unless the tripartite accord signed on Friday turns into an Act. He addressed a mammoth gathering at Hatai Kotor located in the foothills of Baramura Hills, where he also broke his fast in the presence of his supporters.
Earlier, Debbarman received a rousing welcome in Agartala. Thousands of supporters of his party gathered at the agitation site where the royal scion began his fast-unto-death agitation.
“The child is only born. We have to ensure it receives a good upbringing and nourishment. We have received a written commitment that paves the way for rigorous hard work. I want to assure everyone that I will keep pursuing the central government until and unless this agreement, signed for the welfare of my people, takes the shape of an Act,” Debbarman said.
Claiming that many senior leaders from different political parties privately appreciated his efforts, he said, “BJP Minister Bikash Debbarma told me that whatever I am doing for my people is right. Sukla Charan Noatia, Minister in the cabinet, told me that he would always stand beside me on this particular topic. Many leaders from Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP) have privately admitted that I am on the right path. I know many leaders from different political parties who can’t speak for their people because of ideological obligations. But from the bottom of their hearts, they are standing with us,” he pointed out.
Describing “discipline,” “honesty,” and “hard work” as the way forward, he said, “I am told that celebrations are taking place in various areas. It’s okay. The accord calls for celebrations. But in the name of celebrations, no one should engage in violence. The expression of your celebrations should not be burning party offices of other parties, extortion, and other types of hooliganism. Bubagra will never approve of that.”
The senior TIPRA Motha leader also urged his supporters to find people who have expertise in the field of history, law, and rituals of tribal society so that they could be inducted into the joint working group proposed in the tripartite agreement.
“Find out those individuals, experts, and academicians who know the history of our society. People who can help us in drafting legislations on land rights, legal rights, language, and socio-economic sphere. Not politicians, qualified people of our community should now shoulder the responsibility of taking things forward from here,” he pointed out.
